Note to self:
Next time, take the fairy lights inside for the season, when I start noticing pollen in the air, if not before. I don't want pollen getting all over them.

Errant thoughts:
I wonder how many parents with babies born on March 17 name them Patrick.

Seeing the name written there now, it looks rather neat, with "trick" in it. It could rhyme with hat trick.

Yesterday I noticed that Baby Yoda rhymes with Baking Soda.

Hey, it's Green Day.

As long as I keep that leftover baking soda in the corner of the sink, there will be nothing else needing to be cleaned with it.
As long as I keep that cap-ful of leftover mineral oil on the counter, there will be nothing else that needs to be greased.

Hey, Ginger Ale is appropriate for the day. It came in a green can.

Video title: Celebrating Ireland on St Patrick's Day
Posted by: Gardiner Brothers
Date posted: Mar 17, 2021

comments

Our local Koger Center for the Arts has several performances coming up which look good.

They've even got Hamilton coming next year. I wasn't particularly interested in that musical to begin with, but with all the hype about it (it's been 8 years already, wow), I've gotten somewhat curious. Wait, there's a movie of it that I could watch instead? But it's still only available on Disney+ even though it was released 3 years ago? Hmmph.

October 14: Free outdoor concert, noon to 7pm. House Music Dance Festival

October 17-19: Come From Away.
This New York Times Critics' Pick takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them.

Come from Away is a musical ... based on the events in the Newfoundland town of Gander during the week following the September 11 attacks, when 38 planes, carrying approximately 7,000 passengers, were ordered to land unexpectedly at Gander International Airport.

I don't really want to go watch a long musical about this (I'd watch it on TV maybe), but it sounds so fascinating... Operation Yellow Ribbon

October 27 & 28: South Carolina Ballet's Dracula: Ballet with a Bite (Columbia City Ballet).
This eerie and sensual ballet, based on Bram Stoker's classic novel, promises to captivate and thrill both dance enthusiasts and newcomers. With original rock/jazz music by Thomas Semanski and choreography by Artistic Director William Starrett, you'll be immersed in a world of enchantment and mystery. Don't miss this unforgettable performance celebrating its 32nd year

I haven't been interested in going to see this in prior years, as neither ballet nor Dracula appeals to me. But the red flowing gauzy outfit of the dancer in the photo on that page looks nice. And with rock/jazz music, maybe it's fun.

October 29: SC Philharmonic • Halloween at Hogwarts.
OUR POPULAR HALLOWEEN CONCERT EVENT IS BACK!
Join us for a family-friendly Halloween celebration as we transform the Koger Center into that famous school of witchcraft and wizardry. Enjoy a spooktacular program of hair-raising Hollywood favorites and plenty of John Williams' works from the Harry Potter films. Join us for tunes, tricks and treats! Costumes are encouraged!

comments

Looks up more info on the dancers, Les Twins. Oh, so they are practically famous, it looks like. By sharing an old video like that 2013 one, I'd just be showing how out of the loop I am with everything, and everyone else probably already done seen it anyway...
Those 3 inch screws need an extra long drill bit for the pilot holes. Luckily I had already procured a long one in the correct size.

I worked on one door today. I'd already replaced its bottom strike plate in the past, so all I had to do for that one was to drill the holes out some more, and screw in the 4 new bigger longer screws. No problem there.

But the deadbolt plate... I chiseled out the wood for the new bigger strike plate. Then I noticed there was another odd metal plate between 2 pieces of wood of the jamb, which was in the way of my screws. This odd plate had a gap in the center; the old screws went through the gap but the new screw holes were in other positions, and wouldn't be in the gap. I managed to drill 3 holes through that odd plate for 3 of the new screws. But I couldn't get through it for the 4th screw hole. I even broke a drill bit (thankfully not the special long one), and the broken piece is still stuck down in the hole. [Finally got it out using a tweezer to hold & twist it.] So I only used the other 3 screws for that one.

.

This song seems to be over 6 years old and was apparently popular in clubs and with line dancers. But I don't remember hearing it before today.

Video title: Mr Sexy Man Line Dance
Posted by: linedancedr
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDdftG7K_p4
Date posted: Sep 23, 2014

I heard it on the radio, and it sounded to me like a guy's voice was singing it. With the lyrics, that surprised me, that such a gay-themed song would be played on the radio here. So I looked it up the song, and found out that the singer is a woman, Nellie Tiger Travis. Oh well, it's still a very catchy, fun song.

comments

(and E, Selenium, Zinc). (and A).

Most minerals compete with each other.
Magnesium & Zinc reduce absorption of calcium, and vice versa.

But I have Calcium+Magnesium+Zinc tablets... is that a good thing? Ie., if you're taking more of one of them, you should take more of the others too, to make sure you don't get deficient in them? Or is it pointless to take them together?

.

Every once in a while I read something that makes me think "I should try supplementing with ***, maybe it will help my ***."

The latest such *** was magnesium. I had read that if you're deficient in magnesium, that can prevent vitamin D from being absorbed (and possibly vice versa, that taking a lot of D can make you deficient in magnesium). Both Qiao and I already take vitamin D supplements. I also read that magnesium deficiency can cause "nerve and muscle problems, such as muscle twitches".

So I thought, maybe taking magnesium will help these nerve issues I've been having. (And more lately, knee/joint issues.) I read that even though magnesium is plentiful in food, many people are deficient in it. For a while, I was taking one Tums tablet each morning for extra calcium. But maybe taking extra calcium like that without extra magnesium, was bad. I had since stopped taking the Tums anyway, due to quandaries as to whether doing so was any good.

Then I looked for magnesium supplements in the store, and found the above-mentioned Calcium+Magnesium+Zinc combo (each tablet ~33% RDA), and decided to try it. I don't like swallowing a lot of pills, so I've been crushing 2 tablets with a pill crusher each morning. If I mix the crushed tablet with a small amount of Kashi cereal (the kind which is like shredded wheat) and soymilk, it tastes ok. (Other things I tried mixing it in with, even a different kind of cereal, didn't taste good.)

According to the 2nd article, fiber decreases magnesium absorption. Kashi cereal and the other stuff I eat for breakfast tends to be high in fiber. (Fiber is supposed to be good for you!) But hopefully not enough to nullify the potential benefit of the magnesium.

.

Before that, rather recently actually, *** was Vitamin K. I don't even remember why... maybe for my bones or teeth.

According to this page on vitamin K, it works together with vitamin D. So maybe it's good to take the calcium/magnesium/zinc, and the D, and the K in the morning all together. Along with my cereal and soymilk, which provides some fat for the fat-soluble D & K vitamins.

.

Those dancers I posted vids of, their hand movements: Reminds me of how I tend to move my hands while dancing. (and OMG, that Illan dancer reminds me of !me! somehow, like that is totally how I would look dancing, if I had a flat chest, and if I were still young and flexible.) (BODY ENVY) But at the moment, I can't even imagine moving my hands and wrists like that without them getting very achy. I'm quite sure the best remedy for that would be for me to get more sleep, as opposed to any supplements. I do try, I really do.

Edits post again: Now, not to say that I'm old or decrepit. I am still rather flexible, just a bit out of shape, and these achy wrists don't help. I know I still got a pretty damn good body for the most part. But still, BODY ENVY, like that is totally! how I should look.
In that performance, he even did the !spinning! thing exactly like I used to like doing. But my *old*decrepit* head can't do it anymore without feeling sick and dizzy from it.

comments

It did snow. I saw it. I went outside. I went back to bed. I slept until 2:45pm, not even counting the time change.

I'm still getting over my cold, though starting to feel better. On Friday afternoon, I took a pseudoephedrine tablet, from an old package I still had. The expiration date on the package was 2010. It actually did clear my nose up for a little while. I went to bed fairly early (for a Friday) - 1:30am, as I felt so sleepy. But I wasn't able to fall asleep until 3 hours later. Now I'm afraid to take any of those tablets again, in case that is what kept me awake so long. But the other medicine I have, with phenylephrine, didn't seem to help my congestion much if at all.

Came across this video today. The song is Shima Uta. So emotionally expressive. So fluffy hair. Something mesmerizing to me.

Video title: The BOOM - 島唄 ( Live )
Posted by: SilentFace007 さんのチャンネル
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_-OZfn1Zhk

The music reminded me of this album, also Okinawan style: Peppermint Teahouse. It is possibly the most upbeat album of music I have.

Then came across this video.

Video title: 13ºOkinawa festival 2015 -Mirukumunari- Kudaka Majushu
Posted by: 8shinji7898
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARW2oHVM5Rk

(Starting at 3:26, a cute black dog joins the performance.)

I wondered why there would be an Okinawan Festival in Sao Paolo, Brazil, of all places. Did all those many performers travel from Okinawa to Brazil for the festival? Then I read about Okinawan emigration and the many people of Japanese ancestry who live in Brazil.

The song on that last video is "Mirukumunari" by Hidekatsu.

comments

Leave It On the Floor - a touching ball-scene musical with several catchy tunes. From 2011. Available streaming on Netflix.

The Carter character looks very attractive to me. Very androgynous. How I wouldn't mind looking. Photos of the same actor without the dreadlocks don't look nearly as special though. Funny how a hairstyle can make such a difference.

.

Youtube channel: streetstar - lots of good dancing/voguing.

.

comments
