There's a grey heron-like bird that I sometimes see down near the pond at my work. Yesterday morning when I was driving in, I saw it standing in a shallow part of the pond, in an elegant pose that would have made a nice photo. This morning I saw it in the same place again, in a different position, more hunched together and pointing its body downward as if about to strike, but still beautifully elegant.

Then around noon as I walked down to the pond for my lunch, I was surprised to see it in a place I've never seen it before - standing on top of one of the picnic tables near the water. Sitting down at my own usual table a little ways away, I watched it unobtrusively for a while, pleased that it hadn't been scared off by my presence. Eventually some other people came along and it flew away, up to a tree branch.

my, my, aren't I posty today

Oh! And I'm not sure I ever mentioned it here, but last September, they were shooting the movie Death Sentence here in Columbia, and they shot part of it at my work! They said there would be a lot of digital editing done, including replacing the views outside the windows with a city-scape, so it might not bear much resemblance anymore to what our buildings really look like. But still! If you see the scenes of the Starfish Insurance company... perhaps some others too... that was here, inside our buildings!

Interesting article on human chimerism (having 2 or more sets of genes).. and how it may be more common than once thought.
