I also have a vegetable parer with a sharp serrated edge. It peels things much easier than any flat-edged one I've ever used, but has cut me a few times too. Yet the flat-edged ones don't seem any safer because it takes more force to make cuts with them, so when you slip... I'd considered getting some cut-resistant gloves to use in the kitchen, but am not sure how well that would work. Might end up with cut up pieces of glove in the food.

I haven't noticed any reduction in mosquitoes around here; that's one insect I wouldn't mind to be rid of.
