wasps gone but
The wasp nest which I posted about before was in the other corner of the porch.
The wasp nest had been growing bigger even though I'd still only seen a few wasps on it at a time.
In yet another corner of the porch, a different kind of wasp had started building another nest. That nest was smaller than the first. A photo I took of it from underneath showed eggs of different sizes in each hexagonal cell.
One day I noticed the 2nd nest was gone. Completely disappeared, strange. I thought it must have been blown down and away by strong wind, even though that seemed unlikely in the top corner of my porch.
A few evenings later, I was out on the porch adjusting the new motion sensor above the door. I heard a weird noise and turned to look... it was a big cockroach up by the remaining wasp nest. The roach was eating the nest! Seeing and hearing that creeped me out, badly.
I wrote about it shortly thereafter but made the post private as it was too horrifying at the time. I've changed the access on it now.
Now there is still a remnant of the damaged nest up there. It's not completely gone like the other one. But the wasps haven't returned to it since then.
There was also a small wasp nest on the other side of the house, outside a window under the eaves. It looks like the same thing happened to it.
Web searches on wasps and roaches give results all about wasps doing bad things to roaches. But I have seen it: roaches eating wasp nests and wasp eggs.
