I knew about the name, but I didn't know that it changed over time. That's cool. I thought it was limited to gestation, where it forms as the meat-plates of our face tissues migrate/grow to meet there, leaving a lasting scar as the philtrum. I saw this BBC video a while back, which illustrates the process.
