browsers. streaming video to TV.

Over the last few months, I've been randomly using the latest version of Firefox for some browsing, and Firefox ESR (without the Quantum changes, with the Status-4-Evar add-on for displaying the status bar) for the rest.

My main issue with Firefox Quantum remains the lack of the status bar. If there were no other choice, I could live without the status bar, but I really prefer having it. Once the ESR version of Firefox gets updated to Quantum in the next few months, using the ESR will no longer be a work-around for that.

So yesterday I installed Waterfox v56, which supports both XUL and WebExtensions. I've got Status-4-Evar and various Quantum-level add-ons installed, and so far everything has been working fine. I'm not sure what the future will hold for Waterfox, but at the moment it has everything I want.

I haven't had any further issues with the uMatrix add-on, and I really like it, especially being able to easily set site-specific JavaScript rules. That is my main reason for switching from NoScript to uMatrix.

..

I occasionally use an HDMI cable to stream video from my laptop on the big TV screen. I recently discovered that by using "extended display" mode on the laptop, with the TV set up as the 2nd screen, I can stream video to the TV, while at the same time doing other stuff on the laptop screen.

Yesterday, I found out that Windows 8.1+ supports MiraCast, for mirroring the computer display to another screen using wi-fi. So I may even be able to stream video wirelessly, without the HDMI cable. My TV doesn't support MiraCast without a dongle, but Qiao's may.

Huh, I've been using Waterfox too, right through last night - to restyle my DW, which strangely enough, has a new background almost the same shade of pink as is in your icon. I may change it, as it's a bit bright.

I have no Waterfox add-ons except Chris Pederick's Web Dev (which is buggy af because I'm using the oldest version just to ensure full feature functionality), MeasureIt and ColorPicker - just enough to redo the blog...not even LastPass for logins (because I don't trust it to be secure enough to pass login info through).

Waterfox has been...OK, I guess. But I'm pretty happy with Quantum, outside of the missing status bar and third party toolbars, which has positively ruined Web Dev (the add-on) because without toolbars, it's nothing like it was, and doesn't resize correctly with the window (as you reduce window size the add-on gets cut off from view as it mysteriously disappears into the upper right corner).

Oh, and in Nightly (I almost forgot to add this before posting) Web Dev doesn't work at all as of the last week or so, I guess...the toolbar icon no longer shows up anywhere...not in the hamburger icon dropdown, nor in the menus, nor under Customize, nor in the main toolbar itself.

It still shows up in Firefox Quantum latest official, though, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

LastPass is also somewhat ruined without third patry toolbars - instead of using the dropdown to copy out a password, for example, you have to 1) click on Show Matching Sites, 2) point to the matching site, 3) click the wrench on the matching site for "More Options", 4) click the eye under the hidden password to reveal it 5) copy out the password manually (it used to be just two steps: right-click from Matching Sites/Copy Password).

Yeah, I forgot to switch logins while I was working out the new design! I do that a lot on DW.

I'm working on an edit of the new design - same as you see now, but the old colors from Elegant Grunge, more or less. I can wear pink and decorate in it (my bedset is in the nearly same colors right now) but look at on my blog day after day (especially in Reading view) really not so much...but I tried.
