openID and LJ

One of the changes implemented by LJ in 2008, according to LJ News, is
LJ now supports OpenID 2.0 and your OpenID friends can leave comments in journal entries that are marked as "friends only."

And this page says:
If you're not a member of LiveJournal.com but want to leave authenticated comments and let people add you as their friend, trust your comments, etc., then you can login either in the form below, or from any comment entry form. Once you're logged in, you'll also be able to read friends-only posts that LiveJournal.com users have indicated you're allowed to read.

I haven't figured out though, how to indicate that you want a non-LJ user to be able to read your friends-only posts. How do you add a non-LJ openID to your friends-list?

The "Add Friends" part of the "Add or Remove Friends" page only allows you to enter 15 characters, which isn't long enough for most openID values, including the one I was just going to test with...

Well, I was able to login to LJ with a yahoo account openID, and leave a comment on this post. That still doesn't answer my question, though.

No idea, I'm afraid. Could have been a yahoo thing rather than a livejournal thing.

The comment above me would work. I was doing it on IJ for a bit, but I've had a headache since I first saw your post and can't think well enough to remember how we did it.
