in the dog house
Saturday, November 27th, 2010 01:33 pmI feel sorry for Zorro. Last year, I got her a nice dog-house and set it up on the front porch. It took her a while to get used to it, but eventually she started using it.
Now Serena has taken to sleeping in the dog house, and Zorro hardly ever goes in it anymore, even though it's supposed to be Zorro's house! When Serena is in the dog-house, Zorro doesn't go in, even though Serena only takes up a corner of the space in there. I've only seen them both in there a couple of times. Zorro either sleeps on the porch outside of the dog-house, or elsewhere in the yard. Zorro may not feel like going inside the dog-house because the weather isn't very cold yet, or Serena may be bullying/intimidating Zorro from using the house. I suspect the latter, as Serena acts more dominant than Zorro.
When it gets cold at night (under 40 degrees F), we put both dogs into the garage, where it is warmer. So I don't think Zorro is suffering from cold or exposure. Zorro's got a much thicker coat then Serena does.
Still, I'm considering getting a second dog house. Then Serena could have a little house of her own and Zorro could have the (original) larger house. Yet I worry that Serena will continue hogging the larger house, even if the new one is more her size. If that happens, Zorro would still be house-less, as Zorro wouldn't fit in a smaller one. Even if I get a 2nd large-sized house and put them side-by-side, Serena might somehow hog both of them. So I'm not sure what to do.
