who let the dogs in?
Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 03:42 amEarlier this winter, with some trepidation, I bought 2 plush dog beds for Zorro and Serena, and put one in the dog house and the other in the garage. So far, neither bed has been chewed to bits! (in the past, plush things were not safe around the dogs - the next day there would be fluff all over the yard). It seems that Zorro and Serena are safely past their chewing-things-up stage.
My dad and step-mom visited after Christmas. Their dog is well-behaved, and I allow them to bring it into my house. It does make me feel a bit guilty though, to let another dog into my house, when I don't let my own dogs in.
So I finally decided it might be safe to let our dogs into the front room of the house (which used to be the empty "meditation" room or the "echo chamber" room, but which Qiao has pretty much taken over since being in the wheelchair).
I bought a gate and installed it in the hallway between the front room and the rest of the house. Then we let the dogs in! Zorro was very cautious and nervous at first. Serena walked in without hesitation. They both thoroughly inspected the room, and shortly made themselves at home. (I took some video and will post it later).
Now, they eagerly anticipate being let inside for a while each evening. I'm not letting them stay in the house overnight (they can always go in the garage if they get cold), as I don't want to risk them having a "potty" accident, or barking to be let outside while I'm trying to sleep.
It's been unusually warm this past week or two. Spring-like. Today it was in the 80s and felt almost summer-like.
So far they've been very well behaved. They only chewed apart one (rather insignificant) thing which they shouldn't have.
Who knows. Maybe someday I'll let them into the rest of the house. But for now, I don't want dog hair getting all over the place, and I don't want to worry about them damaging things in the house or having potty accidents.
