dry skin by nails

This is one thing I didn't expect as part of aging and/or menopause. The skin on the edges of my finger and toe nails is dryer and harder than it used to be. It's annoying and distracting. I cut off what bits I can with a nail clipper and use glass nail files on the rest. But even with special narrow-pointed cuticle files, it is hard to get at just the dry skin while avoiding collateral damage to my nails.
