You're probably right, but it still seems unfortunate to me for data to disappear into oblivion. It may no longer be needed, but it provides historical context. You could call me a hoarder of data. I have a few files going back to 1995. Not because I think that future generations will want them, but because I like going back and looking at them once in a while.
