Legion (TV series) - Qiao watched the first episode of season 2 on the FX network, and thought I might like it. He was right. So we bought season 1 on Amazon for $10, and have now finished watching that to catch up. The characters in the show are mutants, as in the comic book superheroes. But given that story line, the show is not at all what I would have expected, ergo why I'm enjoying it so much. For example, there are slow-mo action sequences where the sounds have been replaced by music (that kind of thing always seems to appeal to me). But most of the episodes are less about action & fighting, and more dreamlike, with great visuals. The main character was diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age. As heron61 wrote, it's very surreal (and awesome!).
Killing Eve - a crime drama starring Sandra Oh as the title character. I've watched the first 2 episodes, and so far it's been quite entertaining.
Roseanne, season 10. Yes, I'm watching it, because I want to. To me, Darlene and Becky (both of them) look practically the same as they did 20 years ago. I can't get over that they are supposed to be so much older now, even though they look the same. Seeing them drinking alcohol onscreen, and seeing Darlene with a teenage daughter who is bigger and taller than she is, is hard to get my head around. At least DJ and David look older, like I would expect. Some parts of the show still make me laugh a lot. Some parts don't. I was surprised to find out that Roseanne (not only the character, but the actor) supports Trump. The first episode was hard to get through and left a very bad feeling in my stomach. But Darlene has a gender-bending son who wears skirts and dresses to school. Seeing that shown on TV in a positive way almost makes up for the bad parts.
Qiao has been watching the show on his own too, even though he told me he never watched the original series. That makes me think he is watching it precisely because he heard that Roseanne supports Trump. That makes me think that he probably still supports Trump too. Gah. That's hard to get my head around too. But not something that I want to discuss with him.

Date: 2018-05-09 06:42 pm (UTC)From:The last episode was very critical of the travel ban (and, in general, xenophobia) which came off as an attempt to rehabilitate the character. I think we're meant to believe that her support of Trump is purely on economic grounds, but it definitely felt strange to hear anti-racist lines coming from someone who voted for a racist. :/ I doubt very much that the other writers support Trump, but I'm wondering what the long-term arc of the show is going to be.

Date: 2018-05-10 03:44 am (UTC)From:I initially thought that maybe her support of Trump was on economic grounds. Or that's what she thought made sense for the character. I don't really think she's racist (I like how DJ must have an interracial marriage, as his daughter is black). Based on the TV shows, Roseanne always seemed pretty progressive to me. But besides what I've seen in her TV shows, I don't really know what her views or beliefs are.
From what I read, she's been a friend of Trump for a long time, even before his presidential campaign. So some of her support may be because of that. Based on that first episode, she (the person, not just the character) also seems to have a vitriolic hatred of Hillary... if that was all an act, then she's a damn good actor. I can understand why a lot of people don't trust Hillary, but I don't get the whole hatred thing, or why they think she's so much worse than the other candidates were in that regards, especially Trump. I still wonder how much of that ill-will against Hillary was influenced by all the fake news going around, and by the email issues, which seemed blown very out of proportion to me.
From what I understand, there are only 9 episodes. If they won't be making more than that, I don't think there can be much of a long term arc; it's barely enough to get caught up with all the characters.
