Took the niece and nephew (and mother) to see the movie
"Bend It Like Beckham" yesterday. It was enjoyable, and the kids
seemed to like it too.
After that we went to the park to play badminton. Then some of us
went on the swings - they were my favorite thing in the playground
when I was young, and they still are... the sturdy tall metal ones
that can hold my adult weight, at least, and which don't have those
darn "children only" signs nearby.
swing... swoosh... swing... swoosh... swing... swoosh...
Except that they usually squeak...
squeeak...swoosh... creeak...swoosh...squeeal...swoosh...
ergh.
The 7 yr old seems to have a bug-phobia. When we wanted to leave,
she got all upset about not wanting to cross the grass to get to the
sidewalk, because of there being bugs in the grass. Even though she
had managed to walk across the grass to get there.
Being around them gives me a curious combination of "respectable
adult" and "31 year-old kid" feeling. It was actually nice having
them here. Felt like being on a vacation.
