Boost mobile phone
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 11:52 amI have my new Boost mobile cellphone, an i875 bought off of eBay, as well as a starter kit with SIM card bought from the Boost website, and am in the process of setting it up and reading the manual to learn how to use it. I am looking forward to getting on the web via my cellphone!
Notes on the activation process...
1. I tried to activate it online, but got an error message saying that I should call to activate it.
2. I called the Boost number and chose the automated voice-prompt activation. When it got to the part where you choose a phone number, it listed two groups of 5 prefixes which were available for my area code. I missed writing down the first group of numbers, and wanted the system to repeat them. But it did not have an option for that, so when I didn't press any key, I was automatically routed to a live customer care person.
3. The live person assigned me a phone number for my area code without giving me any choice as to the number.
4. I tried out the phone and discovered that the phone number I had been assigned was not local to my city, and that you had to dial the area code even from here, in order for it to work.
5. I called back the Boost number and talked to another person, who informed me that there were no local numbers for my city currently available. He said this could be due to the high demand over the holiday season, but that I could try checking back the next day.
6. I had originally considered porting the number from my old cell phone to my new one, but decided against it as the old one expires in 2 days and the porting process supposedly takes up to 7 days. I didn't want to end up with the phone not working due to the old number having expired during the process. But now, I decided to call Boost back and ask them if it the port could work. The person whom I spoke to this time said that no, it probably would not work because it takes 3-5 business days to do the port.
BUT, he said that he would set me up with a local number, as the system was showing that there WERE SEVERAL ones available for my city. So he changed my phone number, and I did a master reset on the phone, and now I have a local number.
(I wonder if their system keeps track of how many times you call, and if you call several times, ends up routing you to a more knowledgeable and experienced customer care representative than the first few times??)
