grocery adventures

I discovered purple cauliflower at Rosewood Market. There was no sign put up for it, and it was only by chance that I picked one up to see what it was. And it was about 1/3 cheaper than the regular cauliflower. Score!

EarthFare has been selling Strawberry/Banana and Chocolate/Banana flavors of Vitasoy soymilk. They are both very yummy. Today they were only $1.27 each, as they are nearing their expiration date. I bought a bunch of them. Score! They'd probably have been selling better if their price were shown, and if they were placed by the regular soymilks instead of on the floor in the gourmet desserts section, getting all dusty.

Qiao surprised me with another vegan cookbook - Great Chefs Cook Vegan. The recipes are daunting, and I came across several ingredients I hadn't even heard of before. Based on the photos of the prepared dishes, I think I'd enjoy eating most of them, but the portions shown are tiny! Like what you'd get in a fancy restaurant, I guess - the chefs are from fancy high-scale restaurants. I can only imagine how much they would charge for these dishes in such a restaurant. It's disconcerting though, to consider how many hours it would take to prepare one of the items based on the recipe, while being given the misleading visual that the results of all that effort could be eaten in 2 or 3 mouthfuls. I looked through the whole cookbook, and I think that if I ate all the items shown in all of the photos, I wouldn't even be particularly stuffed. :)

I just remembered that I have Monday off work. Yay!

Before going shopping, I spent nearly 3 frustrating hours trying to get my old wireless router to work in conjunction with Forestfen's dsl modem/router combo, without success. Then I had to leave, in order to get my groceries before the stores closed.

Anyway, I bought cauliflower, pine-nuts, sunflower seeds, currants and onion for one of the recipes, and black sesame seeds and tofu for another one.

Some intriguing combos from the cookbook:
watermelon squares covered with diced tomatoes and pistachios;
cotton-candy covered avocado sprinkled with chopped corn-nuts (like, isn't that idea just totally wow-some?!)

I'm tired. Need to eat dinner.
