trash pickup

I called to find out when trash collection of large items is for my address, as what I had written in my notes (the week of the 2nd Monday of each month) didn't appear to be correct. I saw them pick up the first 2 rolls of carpet I had put out the week before I was expecting it, and when I put out the next 2 rolls the next week, those didn't get picked up.

The 2nd set got picked up by someone on Tuesday, but I think that was simply by someone who wanted the carpet (in spite of the backing falling apart), not by trash collection. The other items I had put out were left behind.

I guess I didn't ask the question in the right way, as the lady on the phone asked me what kind of large items. So I replied "...like pieces of wood". (I had an odd-shaped wood piece which I had removed from a mirror, in order to be able to hang the mirror on a wall.). She replied that they don't pick up wood. (huh? In my experience, they definitely do pick up wood, at least in the form of small tree limbs.) So then I said "...what about cushions...". (Q and I broke an office chair by both sitting in it at the same time, and leaning back too much. I'm keeping the seat part, but getting rid of the back.) Like couch cushions, she asked? Yes, I replied (that's close enough, I thought). She said that those go out every Monday with the yard waste.

Now why would cushions, which are generally made of synthetic fibers, go with yard waste, while "pieces of wood" wouldn't go with yard waste? From what I understand, the yard waste gets chipped up and composted.

Maybe I should just put them both in the regular trash bin. I think they would fit.
