tinsel

I think this little Christmas tree ornament/figurine is cute. I don't remember where it came from, but it's one of the oldest ornaments I have, from my childhood. The reindeer in the background is newer.

Last year, I ordered a Christmas tree bag, to be able to store my tree without having to take it apart and take the light strands off it. That made putting it up this year considerably easier. I also had help putting the ornaments on it.

But afterwards, something didn't feel quite right. The tree seemed sort of bare compared to how I remembered it from last year. The garland I used this year wasn't really long enough - maybe that is why. Or maybe it was because I didn't have to put as much effort into it as in the past?

Tonight I put some tinsel on the tree, and now it seems more right. I haven't used the tinsel in many years.

I picked at the skin with a needle. And tweezers. I sucked on it. I rubbed soap on it and washed it off. I did something else for an hour. I picked at it with the needle and tweezers some more. I could see the splinter quite distinctly at this point, but it still wasn't sticking out for me to be able to get it with the tweezer.

I spit on it. I squeezed the area around it with my other hand, trying to push it out from the bottom. It came out!

..

I worry how I'm going to be able to get splinters out when I'm older and my eyesight isn't as good. Over the years, I've read many suggestions and remedies. But I always have a hard time remembering what has worked for me personally, besides picking at it with a needle. So I'm going to try to remember to write down what works, each time it happens.
