notes, memory aides, personal history

For many years, I've kept notes files on various things (house repairs, computer stuff, cellphone stuff, TV/electronics, elections, health/body stuff, people (mainly for things discussed verbally with other people, so I don't forget what was said), etc).

The notes are a great help. When Qiao's DVR loses its list of stored recordings, I can check to see how we fixed it the last time, so that fixing it the 2nd time around is a lot quicker. When I'm wondering "Does the HVAC filter need to be changed?", I can check to see when I last changed it. Stuff like that.

Since last year, I've also kept a daily journal-style notes file, to keep track of what I do each day. I don't have much time for it, so the stuff I write in there tends to be very brief and not really like a journal.

But even with all that, sometimes I try to find notes on something I did, and find nothing at all. Not even a brief mention of it.

So, for my own reference, here are other things I can check:

My browser history. If I was working on something, there's a good chance I did internet searches on it. (I purposely save off my browser history, exactly for reasons like this. As I spend so much time on the internet, it's a detailed history of my daily life which I don't want to lose.)

Other notes files on the computer. Maybe I wrote it in down in an unexpected place. Today I discovered a "printerNotes" file. I'd have expected printer notes to be in the computer notes file; I forgot having split them out to their own file.

My Dreamwidth posts.

My photos, from both my camera and cellphone. If I was working on something, maybe I took photos of it.

Emails.

Cellphone texts.

Paper notes on the table & desk.
