It bothers me that they declare the election won so early. Why can't they wait until most of the numbers are in?
From what I currently see, Ohio has 49.2% Obama, and 49.1% Romney, with 80% of precincts in. A 1500 vote difference. And yet they already declared it won by Obama, therefore determining the whole election. What if they are wrong? What if it goes .2% the other way? Crowds of people on TV jumping up and down, cheering, crying... Why can't they wait to be sure?

Oh, look at it now. 49.2% vs 49.2%. 1046 vote difference.

I'd be less anxious if they hadn't called it already.

When most all of the votes counted are from heavely Republician rual areas, and the remaining votes to be counted are from Democratic urban areas the outcome is a no brainer. The outcome in eighty percent or more of states is known long before the election, making voting unnecessary. Did you really think that there was a chance that a democrate was going to be elected in SC.

It may be a no brainer, but it is never entirely certain. People in some states were still waiting to cast their ballots, many ballots were cast but not yet counted, and the media was already declaring the election over. It wouldn't be so bad if the media simply stated "Based on our projections, we believe Obama has won". But they didn't do that. They stated "Obama has won the election!"

South Carolina has 1,049,507 votes for Romney, and 845,756 for Obama. Romney got 10% more of the ovarall vote than Obama. It's not inconceivable that a democrat could someday get the majority.

In Ohio, Obama only got 1.9% more than Romney. That's quite close to my viewpoint.
