My 23andme DNA test results indicate that 99.8% of my ancestry is European, which is no surprise to me. However, it also indicates that 10.2% is Ashkenazi. That is interesting. I had always wondered whether part of my mom's family (from Germany) might have been Jewish. Then again, it could be from the other side of the family.

There was nothing particularly startling or worrisome in regards to my Disease Risk and Carrier Status.

The closest match found by the "Relative Finder" feature is someone who may be my 3rd or 4th cousin. Based on their profile, I think we are related somehow via my maternal grandfather's family.

Oooh. Julie and I have been considering doing that recently. Did it take long, and was there lots of other information?

Normally it is supposed to take 2-3 weeks from when they receive the sample, but it took about a month to get my results back, due to high holiday volume.

The non-ancestry results fall under headings "Disease Risk", "Carrier Status", "Drug Response", and "Traits".
"Disease Risk" includes about 30 items for which there have been enough studies that the Confidence in the results is listed as 4-star. For those items, it shows what your genetic risk is for the disease compared to the average person's risk. There are many more items with lower confidence levels, where the results only indicate that you may have an increased or decreased risk.

I'm still figuring out some of the other features on the website, such as being able to compare your genomes to someone else's. If you and Julie do it, email me and I'll let you know my user name so that we can do a comparison!
