I missed the Venus Crescent Moon proximity event on Saturday as I'm not an early riser.

But this evening (yay!) I got to see Saturn and Jupiter pretty close together, and even got some non-wiggly photos of them. As of tonight they are still one or two moon's widths apart, I would estimate.

If you have clear skies, you might also want to look for the Geminid meteor showers in about three hours from now. There should be about two meteors a minute tonight. Find Orion's belt and look one constellation-length towards the sunrise part of the horizon.

Meteors too! Aaah, I can't keep up with all these neat things in the sky this year!

The sky is looking nice and clear here. I haven't seen any meteors yet but have been too busy fiddling with my camera and tripod to really look. :)
I've just figured out maybe for the first time, how to take reasonably good photos of the stars with my camera, even here in my yard with all the light pollution around.
I think I will recharge the battery while I finish up my work, and then go outside to look again.

I've never achieved that. ^_^ Good luck! If you can get good pictures of the night sky, you can spice it up by running around with a flash gun (just a detachable flash for a SLR camera) and light up trees and stuff... or run around a field with light and have jagged lines wherever you went in the picture.

After my last comment, I found out that my camera can even do 15 second long exposures, and get even better photos than what I had with my previous settings. I'm blown away right now. And yep, I did try out some special effects with a flashlight, and it worked!
