Is the whole area between the shoulder joint (where the bones come together in the ball&socket) and the neck considered to be a part of the "shoulder"? Or is there any other word for that area of the body?

Yes, although that doesn't mean there isn't also a word for that specific part of the shoulder.

I went to check my library for an answer, and discovered that "physiology" and "anatomy" are different subjects. Oops. Oh well, I'm always eager for an excuse to add a new book to my library. :3
