In other news, the SC state legislature is getting ready to completely outlaw abortion here. I am so disgusted. I have started contemplating the possibility of moving somewhere else.

For various reasons, California came to mind. But with all those wildfires, and what else was it? Weren't there some other big disasters there lately, why can't I remember...

And then also the cost of living. While I'm rather well off here, I might not even be able to afford it over there.

And floods. If you decide to move to Minnesota, you should do it before the water wars start. Any state that's already desert (Texas, Arizona, California, New Mexico) is recommended against. There's still flood potential here in Minnesota due to much of it being essentially flattened by glaciers, though flooding hasn't been an issue in recent years. Any state that has its own NON-irrigated food farms is a good choice.

Have you considered Seattle or Portland? Similar politics to California, fewer wildfires, and Portland at least is not as expensive as the big cities in California.

We fled SC for NC 8 years ago. Now we're a few legislative seats in November away from a *veto-proof* GOP majority (it's so gerrymandered that that happens on roughly a 52/48 vote).

This is also the legislature arguing before SCOTUS this year that state courts (and governors) aren't allowed to have opinions about federal elections.

So we're headed the way of SC, even before we talk about the human horrorshow that is our current Republican lieutenant governor and heir apparent to the 2024 nomination.

Anyway, the point of all this, is we're contemplating eastern Pennsylvania, depending on what happens *there* in November. It does have chilly winters, but it's not nearly as expensive as the west coast, and neither on fire nor in permadrought-plus-floods.
