Maybe it was a signal flare? Fort Jackson is back in that direction. But it was so bright, and yellow, and I would have thought if it was a flare, you'd see it going up and down, not staying in the same place.

Here's the first photo, where it shows up the brightest. The red lights to the left are the tower in the distance, the bright lights in the bottom half are the shopping center (down the slope from here). The arrow is a street sign at my level.

Yep, I guess a flare. Or maybe a helicopter or something.

Weird! I looked out the window and saw a bright yellowish light in the sky, higher than any building... a little higher than the red lights on the nearby radio/whatnot tower. Maybe it was an airplane, but it didn't seem to be moving. And it seemed way too bright to be Mercury or Venus. Plus, it is cloudy in that direction. I got my camera and went outside and took 2 photos. Then, I looked down in order to change the camera settings, and when I looked back up, the light was gone!
