Zorro is a bit over a year old now. I get along with her much better now that she rarely jumps up and nips me anymore. Sometimes I can even sit down outside with her and relax while petting her.
She has become "best buddies" with one of my neighbors' dogs. These are the neighbors that don't keep their dogs on chains. Zorro's friend is a very small dog, named Serena... a pug/chihuahua mix, or something like that. Serena is so small that she is able to crawl through a gap under the fence between my yard and the neighbor's yard. She comes to visit Zorro quite often now, and they run around and play and have great fun together.
Both the neighbor and I have tried blocking the gap under the fence with bricks and big wood blocks, to no avail. Zorro pulls and pushes them away, in order to free a path, and then Serena squeezes through. I tried using some long metal stakes to hold the big wood blocks in place. It only took Zorro a day or so to undo my handiwork. Then I got more stakes, intending to drive them in at the fence where it would be harder for Zorro to get them out. But I ended up not completely closing off the gap, because if I do that and then the dogs aren't able to play together anymore, I'll feel sad for them. That neighbor has 2 other dogs, but they don't play with Serena like Zorro does.
I'll post some video of them sometime.

Date: 2010-10-03 03:01 pm (UTC)From:Then it was a problem while my fence was damaged, because Serena was able to sneak into my yard and then escape out onto the streets. She's a hyperactive little cannonball, and likes to run around paying visits to *all* the dogs in the neighborhood.
Now that the fence has been fixed, my main worry is that she may still find another way out of my yard, both because it is dangerous on the street and because I'm not sure if she's been spayed. I'm also concerned that she spends so much time in my yard versus her own that she will somehow end up being my dog instead of my neighbors' dog.
