I'm not very familiar with poi poi either, but I did come across mention of that while looking up info on flagging, so there must be similar elements to both. The flags have weighted cord sewn into the edges of 2 sides which are the leading edges, and the unweighted sides are the trailing edges.

Used to juggle silk hankies and I know there is no way to get them to do that kind of thing.
