Saturday, August 30th, 2008 02:09 amOh, wow, yes. Sewing a loop of cord onto the flags will make them even niftier! Then I can spin them around and around and around on my finger. Or even just hold onto the loop for spinning them in the regular manner.
While idly spinning my cap at work, it dawned on me that my finger would only be making contact with one end of the loop.
So. What will be a good-size loop. Big enough to slip over my wrist, or not so big.
.
Some people on YouTube have absolutely mesmerizing personas. They could become stars if they went into show business. Well, I suppose they are stars in a way already.

Sunday, July 27th, 2008 01:53 amI finally finished hemming the edges of my flags. I'm still considering though, whether to sew on some kind of loop, so that I could spin the flags around on a finger... I'm not sure how well that would work.
I'll probably record a video of them in motion sometime, though I haven't studied any special moves yet, and I still tend to get them tangled up.
.
I got the dead tree removed. Hard to believe.... me doing such a thing, considering my past feelings on that kind of thing. But one of its branches that fell down had termites in it, which scared me.
I got the stump ground too. I thought that would be good, as it would allow me to replant in the same area. But now I'm not so sure. The stump would have taken up a relatively small area, but now there's a big area filled with wood chips. And apparently wood chips take a long time to break down, and are acidic or leach nitrogen from the soil, and things don't grow well in them. I moved some of them to the street; hopefully they will be picked up as yard waste.

Friday, July 4th, 2008 12:40 amAw, man. I was almost finished sewing one of my flags, except for hemming the outside edges. So I tried the flag out, but it wasn't flying well... then I discovered that the place where one is supposed to hold the flag (its handle) wasn't where I thought it would be. So now I've got to redo the whole weighted cord part, because otherwise I'd be holding the flag on the side with the thinner fabric, which might cause it to tear easily.
At least I found this out before sewing the 2nd flag.
It sure does look pretty though. It would have been much easier to just use a single piece of fabric, but decided to do 3 colors instead - a stripe each of shiny gray-blue, orange, and pink-violet.

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008 07:30 pmAfter watching some flagging videos on youtube, and finding a website with instructions on how to make said flags, I decided I would make myself some. These flags don't have rigid handles, but rather are weighted along 2 edges. I bought some cloth and weighted cord and now just need to cut and sew things together. I suppose if I sewed one with weights along all edges, I might be able to spin it with my finger in the center... I remember once seeing someone spin a piece of fabric around with just their hand in the middle, and was amazed and wondered how they did it. But I will try the regular flags first.
I bought a fresh sapodilla fruit (also known as neese-berry) from a west indian/oriental store. It looks somewhat like a potato or large kiwi fruit. It needs a few days to ripen. I also bought some frozen turrones, banana and jackfruit-filled fritters. I baked a couple, and they taste good.
I also picked up a copy of one of our free local papers at the store, and was leafing through it... in the concert section, it says that Boy George will be performing in Myrtle Beach and Atlanta in the near future!!! I need verify and see if I can get tickets; I hope the gigs don't get cancelled, as often happens. I also came across a personal ad that says "ISO a female, 30-52, independent, preferably sane, ... " LOL!
I also leafed through the real estate ads... and remembered how I used to feel skimming through them, imagining what it would be like to buy and own my own piece of property. And now I have my own. Well, I didn't buy a thousand-acre tract of forest-land out in the country somewhere, but this house is much more practical.
