The Vegg, a new vegan egg-yolk substitute. It sounds interesting. The recipe photos look good.

Facebook page.

One of the ingredients is Kala Namak, also known as black salt (even though it is actually pink). That must give the product its egg flavor. I have a jar of Kala Namak; it has a sulfury smell and taste, and it adds a nice savory flavor to cooked beans (kidney, lima, etc).

Nutritional yeast gives and eggy (or cheesy) flavor..I've made scrambled tofu, and pesto, with it.

Black salt. The concept is kind of interesting to me, reminisant of 'black gold' which of course isn't gold at all. I did a google search and it appears that before the Kala Namak is crushed – when it is still a large lump – it it actually does look very dark, almost black. However, once it is broken up into granules it becomes pink. Interesting stuff – I want to try some now :)
