After watching all 10 episodes of the first season, it's still mainly Maura and Ali's characters that hold my interest.
When I first heard about the series, based on its name I thought it would be about the parent of a trans child. Then I realized it was about a parent who was trans, which seemed even more fitting name-wise.
But after watching the first season, it might end up being about both after all. Ali seems to be on the path to discovering zhe is trans or genderqueer or agendered. The nude mirror scene in the first episode must have been significant after all. In this season, zhe gets her hair cut in a masculine style. Zhe wears a suit and tie to the funeral. Zhe is confused about zir relationship with Syd. Zir mom mentions zhe was a tomboy as a child, and a flashback showed zir being upset about having to wear a dress. Except for zir strong desire for sex, zhe seems similar to me. Even kink-wise. What was the strange hallucinatory experience with the trans-guy? That was curious. Could it have been an after-effect of the drugs zhe took in a previous episode? Or just showing how one's mind can build a fantasy around someone else?
Nearly everyone (well, at least 7; maybe 8 or 9 characters) in the show seems to feel it is perfectly normal and desirable to do drugs. Are drugs that prevalent in the real world too?
