At my work, we are transitioning to using Git in place of SVN. During a recent meeting, one of our techs mentioned that using TortoiseGit, it had taken half an hour to download the files for just 2 of our projects. One of the BAs retorted, "Isn't there some other tool, like HareGit maybe, that would be faster?"

(Personally, I find that using Eclipse to manage Git works pretty well.)

zomg if you're going to name your software package tortoise anything it had better be running on the king hell server of all time or you will never hear the end of it. That's a terrible name.

Well, for SVN we were using TortoiseSVN, which worked quite well. I was hoping TortoiseGit would be similar, but so far it has been somewhat disappointing. Both are free and open source tools. I never associated TortoiseSVN with slowness, so the BA's remark caught me by surprise and was quite funny. I don't think TortoiseGit is slow either, it's just that our projects are very large. Downloading them with SVN took a long time too.

That's fair.
We use perforce and sharepoint at work. I bet tortoisegit is a better solution. (Well, perforce is pretty nice, actually.)
