I took Forestfen to watch Episode 3 today since she wanted to see it. Interestingly, I liked it today more than I did the first time... It seems that knowing aforehand which parts of the movie will annoy me, allows me to be less concerned with those parts, and to focus instead on the rest of it. And I even find my mind coming up with explanations for the bad parts. Ie., what seemed ridiculous at first, seems reasonable when considered from another viewpoint.

For example, perhaps Palpatine didn't turn ugly all of a sudden at the same time as his evilness was exposed - this was an annoyance to me, because it seems that so often, the bad guys are portrayed as ugly, as if ugliness and evil always go hand-in-hand - but perhaps Palpatine was that physically bad-looking all along (he was very old, after all), and it was merely a Sith illusion of his that made him look younger to begin with. Perhaps once Anakin and the audience are shown the truth about Palpatine, it makes sense for us to also see through the facial illusion as well?

And watching the movie a 2nd time around, one notices more things, like the Millenium Falcon in one shot... the bit about the Ewoks... that brave Jedi kid that saved Bail Organa was rather admirable...

I still wasn't quite able to understand what Padme said right before dying, though.... (I looked it up, so now I do) It's reasonable, since she was dying, that her speech wouldn't be clear. But that would be quite bothersome in real life, if someone important to you said something right before they croaked, and you couldn't make it out. And you most likely wouldn't have it on video in order to rewind it and listen again.

So anyway, ignoring the annoying parts, it still is a pretty cool movie... or story, perhaps. I mean, really, the movie is just one attempt at telling a story... and even if this manifestation/interpretation/visualization of the underlying story has parts which annoy me, that's not unexpected, since the people who made the film are just human. That doesn't mean that there isn't a wonderful, good & even perfect story out there, of which these movies are a mere attempt to portray. So if you ignore the bad parts, and/or replace those parts with better versions (how you yourself think they'd be better), then there you are, and you've got a great story. Right? See, I can still be a fan even while not seeming to like the movies that much. hehheh.

One other thing... People make a point about how many fewer important female characters there are than male ones in most movies. That's quite true. But it's not only the characters... if you watch the end-titles, the names there tend to be overwhelmingly male as well. Sad, isn't it? - that occupations such as the ones pertaining to film-making, still seem to be quite segregated based on gender.
