very large snake?

This review makes me dubious about the veracity of the rest of the reviews too.

Hotel review:
Room was not very clean. Had bugs in room never came and cleaned room. had a very large snake in the sitting area outside. Lots of drug dealing and prosituites all hours of the day and night. Not a very safe place to stay.The worse Red roof I have evet stayed at. Will not stay at this one again and will not recommend it to anyone else. Very unsafe place.

So in the portico or a more open outdoor area. Was the review for a Southern hotel? Because anything south of the Mason Dixon line I'd tend to believe it (then again, I've spent so much time in snake and alligator country I expect to see both just about anywhere, the way people expect cherry blossoms in spring, so ymmv).

Yes, a Southern hotel, but in a city not out in the boondocks. The review was listed as from a verified customer, so if it's fake I guess someone paid them to write a bad review. A lot of bad reviews sound believable to me; this one seems over-the-top though... drug dealers, prostitutes, (all hours!), bugs, *and* a very large snake! That part at least, provided me amusement.

But in their defense, they didn't say the room was horribly dirty, just "not very clean". So they could have written a worse review.

Well, for a "hotel" it does sound outlandishly bad. But for a Motel6, say, that's just run-of-the-mill, "Tell us something exciting that happened, 'cuz none of that really qualifies". I'm so used to having seen the more seedy side of life I forgot that would sound at all weird to you (or that it would sound so damn normal to me)! :)
