pedal steel guitars and resonator guitars

I was watching some song being played on RFD-TV. One guy was playing a stringed instrument which I wasn't familiar with (at least by sight; I was familiar with the sound from other songs), so I looked up what it is called: pedal steel guitar.

The next video shows how it works. It sounds very complicated to me, but I love the twangy sound.

The guitar in the second video reminds me of the cover of that Dire Straights album, the one "Money For Nothing" is from.

I looked up that album in Wikipedia, and it is indeed one of those kinds of guitars.
