We had 6 trick-or-treaters in all. 5 of them came after 9pm (a group of 3 and another pair), and it might be that the 3 only came because FF pointed them our way as she was driving out.

Maybe trick-or-treating is a thing of the past. I had a good enough time yesterday, but I'm not sure if I'll give out candy next year. Till now, I've felt like it was somewhat of an obligation for me to give out candy, to provide Halloween fun for nowadays kids, in return for me having been able to trick-or-treat and have fun when I was a kid. But Halloween and trick-or-treating nowadays is hardly anything like when I was a kid. No matter how much candy I give out, it won't make it the same for today's kids. And who knows, perhaps they have as much fun in the malls or in their churches, or wherever they spend their Halloween instead of traipsing from door to door in the neighborhood.

I'd been wondering what trunk-or-treating was, but that article explains it. I had only heard of it in relation to churches, and couldn't imagine in what religious sense the word "trunk" was being used.

A 12 yo trick-or-treater was shot to death in Sumter - that's right here in South Carolina. Sigh. I suppose if I was a parent, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting my kids walk around knocking on strangers' doors, either. Heck, I wouldn't be comfortable knocking on strangers' doors, myself.
