Will I fall asleep and stay asleep for 8 hrs now, eh? how feckin hard can it be to fecking download a vid from a camera and convert it into a format that WMM will accept, without making the audio all fecking tinny, eh? I am getting FF a new digital camera for xmas, since the old one she had been using stopped working. I was looking specifically for cameras with wide-angle capability (<=28 mm focal range / 35mm equivalence), and at first it was not easy to find a list of all cameras which fit that criteria. I just stumbled across them a few at a time, while reading reviews.

But then I found this page, which lists a bunch of cameras and their basic specs including focal range:
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraList.php

Even that page, though, doesn't list some of the older wide-angle models which are still available, including the following:

Canon PowerShot SD870
Fuji Finepix F480
Kodak EasyShare V570
Kodak EasyShare V705
Nikon Coolpix S600
Olympus FE-290
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100

I decided on the Lumix DMC-FX35, mainly because it is 25mm which is even wider than 28mm, and also taking into account reviews and price. Otherwise I might have gotten her a Canon PowerShot, as that is the kind I have.

My new camera has some neat effects you can use while shooting photos. Some image-editors probably have these too, but I hadn't used them before.

I made brownies, but they don't taste as good as usual. Not sure if I got the wrong flavor, or if my appetite is lacking. :(

I've uploaded my first vid to youtube; taken with my new camera. (Nothing terribly special)

Trying to understand the settings on my new digital camera.

ISO speeds - a higher number makes the camera more sensitive to light. That means it can use a faster shutter speed in order to get an image of the same brightness, which means the photo will be less likely to be blurred due to any camera-shake. This is good when taking photos in dark locations without a flash, while holding the camera. However, the trade-off is that using a higher ISO setting increases the amount of graininess and noise in the photo.

Long shutter speed setting - this keeps the shutter open longer, allowing more light to be picked up, resulting in a brighter image. But this means that the image is more likely to be blurred by camera-shake if you are holding the camera. So it is probably best to only use this option when using a tripod, or when not holding the camera in one's hands.

If you set a long shutter speed plus a high ISO speed, the image comes out even brighter than it seems to your own eyes. I took a photo of the inside of my kitchen corner cabinet, which is rather dark inside, but the resulting photo looks as if a bright light is shining onto everything inside there. Neat! Yet there is also noise in the photo, so perhaps it is better to not use too high an ISO speed and rather edit the photo afterwards to adjust the gamma? (note, do this and compare the quality of the photos each way).

Exposure compensation - this setting seems to be mutually exclusive with the long shutter speed setting. According to this page, this setting may cause the camera to either change the aperture or the shutter speed. It suggests that this setting can be used when there is a big difference in the brightness of your main subject and the background.

I keep wishing I had my camera for various things. Like taking photos of certain documents before I send them away, so that I have a record of them. I have the webcam, but the quality of the photos it can take isn't very good.

I did use the webcam yesterday to record a few short vids of the yellow meditation/echo room, because the wind was blowing the shear curtains out from the windows so nicely.... I was able to stretch the cam's cord from this room into the other one via the HVAC vents... but then the first vid was over 6 MBs, and in the 2nd vid I intended to record some echoey voice sounds too, but the microphone turned out to not be working :(

So maybe I'll get enthusiastic about that again and try on another day. Still haven't had time to figure out how to get my vids into a format Youtube accepts; that would probably be better than posting them on my site in wmv format.

If the bank is going to deny one of my checks because they suspect it is fraudulent, why don't they just call me and ask?? Instead of just denying it, and letting me find out in my next statement, or when the other party contacts me about it? That's the 2nd time this has happened.

Oh, they emptied my recycling bin today!!!!! It's so wonderful!!!!

The electrician was supposed to call me back today with the estimate. But he didn't.

What an orange-red sun, just above the horizon. If I had my camera here, I'd take a photo of it.

I've been idly wondering whether to buy a new digital camera, or to just get a new cellphone which includes a camera in it.
