I have a container of "GreenShield organic laundry detergent". I'm not sure if I got a bad batch or if it's supposed to be this way.... It is very thin; the consistency and color of rice-milk. It doesn't even feel soapy when I rub it between my fingers. It says to use half a cap-full for a load in a regular washer, and a third for an HE washer. But I suspect that even were I to pour half the container into the machine, that it wouldn't cause much suds.

I've used it for several loads now, and I can't say if it works or not. I've seen some stains/spots left on the washed items, but that can happen even with other detergents. I'm going to be buying some other detergent, as this one simply doesn't seem right to me. I'd be curious to hear from anyone else who may have used this product, and if theirs was as thin as mine.

I absolutely love GreenShield Organic laundry detergent. I’m very sensitive to laundry soap, and I was happy to see that this is indeed a low-sudsing formula. I’ve found that a lot of those really soapy detergents would leave scary residue on my clothes and in my machine, so I always look for these safe alternatives to the commercial brands. It’s also a relief to know the ingredients they use rather than seeing generic terms like “natural/botanical surfactants”. This has become one of my preferred detergents, both for its cleaning and its safety.

I just started using it- bought it yesterday from Lowe's and I too was surprised at the consistency, but to me it's not an issue. I wash all my laundry and cloth diapers with this detergent. Everything seems to come out clean and doesn't have that "feel" I get from other froo-froo detergents. It seems simple enough and natural so I feel good about using it. We have an HE machine so that was something else I was concerned about. Can it be natural AND clean IN an HE machine? It appears to do just that. I hope this is a more trustworthy post. I'm new at this product as well, but I like the results I've had so far. :-)

It works

I do believe it is supposed to be this way. This is not your typical laundry detergent made from high-sudsing petroleum products/phosphates. Somehow we have been convinced by extensive marketing that the only way to clean something is with heavy chemicals and lots of suds. This is simply not true. As the others mentioned, it does not leave the heavy residue and you really only need to use the recommended amount. You still need to pre-treat stains. Most people do tend to use too much laundry detergent especially now with all these concentrated products on the market. Of course the makers of these products don't mind, you end up buying more because you are using way too much per load.

I'll admit that at first I thought a 4 second squirt of this stuff seemed not enough. After using it for a few months now, I am pleased with how well it works and how long the container has lasted.

Sudsing has nothing to do with detergency, neither does viscosity. You have been trained to believe that it does by the big brands, but it has nothing to do with cleaning. Too much sudsing will wear your washing machine down faster than it's true life cycle intended. This product works well, you just have to give it a chance.
