Something I don't really understand is when Christians ask other people to pray for them or for someone they know (usually when they are sick or injured or undergoing surgery). If they believe in a god, and believe that their god hears their prayers, why do their own prayers not suffice, and why do they need other people praying for them too? Do they think that their god is more likely to listen, if more people are praying? Is the god so busy, it will be more likely to notice and pay attention, the more people are praying for a particular thing? Do they think their god is vain, in it will only grant requests after having its ego massaged by having multiple people demonstrating their belief in it? Ie, "You're sick and are asking me to heal you... I don't think that is good enough reason to heal you." Vs, "You're sick, and a hundred people are asking me to heal you; well, I suppose I will give in and heal you after all..."

If you think of prayer more in terms of sending "good vibes" to a person, that I can understand. The more people sending good vibes, the better, if you believe in that kind of thing. But with prayer as in supplication to a god or higher power, the number thing doesn't make sense to me.
