While appearing to be the size of a normal trash can on the outside, Oscar's trash can is actually bigger on the inside than the exterior would suggest...

Shortly after watching a short preview of Killing Eve, season 2, I switched the channel to an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The episode was "True Q", and had a character who looked like a young version of Villanelle from Killing Eve. I wondered if it could be the same actress. Even though ST:TNG must have been around 20 years earlier... if the ST:TNG actress was in her teens then, she'd be maybe in her late 30s now... so it could be possible. Villanelle might be in her late 30s, right? Aren't she and Sandra Oh around the same age?

So I looked it up. The ST:TNG character was played by Olivia d'Abo, born in 1969. Villanelle is played by Jodie Comer, born in 1993. The "True Q" episode came out in 1992, a year before Jodie Comer was even born!

They still look so alike to me, at least in those 2 TV shows:

Sandra Oh was born in 1971, so at least I'm not too far off the mark in regards to her age. She's slightly older than me even.

the daffodils have started blooming.

I've been reading Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. It's quite good. There's no humor (that I've noticed so far), but the plot becomes quite gripping after a certain point in the story.

A guest actor in the Babylon 5 episode And the Sky Full of Stars triggered a memory for me tonight. When I was a kid, there was a short-lived Sci-Fi TV series about an alien from outer space who wore an amulet. That's all I remembered about it, except that I liked the show and was disappointed back then when it was discontinued.

I looked up who the B5 actor was - Judson Scott, and I was right, he was the lead actor in that other series: The Phoenix
(He was also in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.)

The old show must have been very cheesy as it was cancelled so quickly, and I don't think there were ever any reruns. But even so, Judson Scott's character had qualities that were attractive to me back then.

Flash Gordon

I'm surprised how good the film quality and special effects were in this Flash Gordon serial film from 1936:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc3n7sMHsnM

A local station was showing it on TV (WACH Comet TV) tonight, and I'd have guessed it was from the 1950s, not the 1930s. In particular, there are several clips that include a display screen (like a TV) built into the wall, and it is shown playing video, like a security camera. For example, in the above YouTube video, at 0:29:45. They didn't have television back then, so how could they have done that? I guess they must have projected a movie onto the screen, so it's a movie of a movie.

Actually, I was also surprised that the Flash Gordon concept was so old; I didn't realize that it predated the 1980 movie. It also reminded me that I have the novelization of that 1980 movie, which I bought after reading these tweets, and that I have yet to read it.

But now I also want to rewatch the 1980 movie. I don't remember it being so brightly colored and awesomely amusing:

Tank Girl cuts

Last weekend, Tank Girl was shown on a local channel (WACH-57.3 CometTV). I remembered having seen part of the movie on TV before, and that I wanted to watch the whole thing sometime as it seemed cool. (I described it to Qiao as a "goofy sci-fi flick"). As Qiao gets that channel as part of his cable line-up too, I asked him to record it for me on his DVR. We watched it during the week after I got off work.

One part of the movie that confused me was that Jet Girl looked very different near the end of the movie compared to the beginning. I even wondered if she was played by 2 different actors. Apparently not; the difference was only due to make-up. (I liked the non-make-up look better.)

[Ah! Accidentally closed my window. Thank goodness for Dreamwidth's saved draft feature ]

Afterwards when I checked the Wikipedia page to find out about the actors, I read that several important scenes were cut from the movie while it was in production. But even some parts mentioned as being in the movie, I didn't remember from this week's viewing. (Sub Girl? Who was that?) So I checked YouTube, wondering if any deleted scenes had made it there.

Apparently these clips were in the movie, but I don't remember seeing them (surely my memory isn't *that* bad, that I'd forget scenes within a few days??):

If I'd known it wasn't the full movie being shown, I wouldn't have watched it. Now I'd have to go find it for sale somewhere, and hope that I get the full thing, to see what all else I might have missed. Grrr. Why do I even bother with watching old movies on TV.
