aversions

(I'm splitting my prior post into 2 separate ones, in order to expand on a subject.)

My impression of the Transparent pilot:
I'm intrigued by 2 of the main characters (Maura & Ali), and somewhat put off by the other 2. I was quite put off by the sex scenes, and by the many shots of bare breasts, and squeezing of breasts. The bathroom scene showing bare female buttocks didn't bother me but together with all the rest, the show seems like it was scripted to attract viewers who like female nudity and sex scenes. So while I'm intrigued by part of the story, I'm also put off by a lot of it.

.

Not liking the nudity and sex scenes probably makes me sound like a prude. Maybe I am? But I don't think that movies/films/books shouldn't be allowed to have scenes like those; I just don't personally like them.

Why don't I like them? What is it about them that so puts me off? It's not just any sex scenes, or any nudity that puts me off. Only certain kinds. (Although most explicit mainstream sex scenes would fall into that category, which is why I don't watch porn.)

Take the show "Gray's Anatomy". Its characters were having sex or talking about sex and relationships all the time, but those scenes didn't bother me much (beyond rolling my eyes and thinking "there they go at it again!"). But most of those scenes weren't very explicit and didn't involve nudity.

I suspect that what I feel is similar to the aversion that some hetero people feel when watching explicit gay scenes. But what exactly is it that turns me off, and why?

What an obnoxious TV commercial: An ad for a razor showing a woman's leg, with thorns on one side, and the razor stroke transforming the thorns into flowers. If women weren't shaving their legs to begin with, they wouldn't have thorns on their legs! I've never shaved my legs, and they are silky smooth! Or, well... not silky I guess (skin isn't very silky), or not all over, but smooth. Maybe not everyone would have as thin leg-hairs as mine, but I'm sure they'd still be smoother without having been shaved in the first place.

On a related note... Beautiful Girl with a Beard
I feel she looks nice, with or without the beard. But I was also thinking, she has a non-feminine hairstyle, and maybe that is why the beard does not look jarring or disconcerting on her. If she had a feminine hairstyle, the beard might not look as good... but that may just be because I am not used to seeing feminine looking women with beards. I've actually just been picturing beards on some of the female characters of the TV show I'm watching, and they don't look bad.

it's such a feminine beard. or maybe such an androgynous one. but the hairs are starting to be a distraction. i'm curious as to how wododu will react to it, if at all. and i also don't want to get rid of it before seeing him, because then i wouldn't be sure if i was doing it because i felt like it, or because i was worried about what his reaction to it would be. i think i would be disappointed in him if he had a negative response to my cute little beard.

well, i've got a beard. stringy, sparse and nicely located just on the tip of my chin. it makes me feel somewhat genderfuckish. so, maybe ppl don't tend to think anything odd if females happen to wear "men's" shirts or pants, because who can really say that a particular item of clothing is only for males? but a beard on a female, now, that's unusual. maybe it'll make some ppl stop and think, or wonder. and maybe some of those ppl will think something other than just "Oh, how disgusting, that lady has a beard."

in a way, it's odd. all a female has to do to have a beard, is not to pluck those hairs out. at least, those females who tend to grow dark hairs on their chin, which doesn't seem to be such a minority of females either. considering that, i'd think one would see more females with chin-hair. maybe i just haven't been looking.

but i don't know. i suppose i'll pluck it out sooner or later. otherwise it'll keep growing longer, and how long would i want it?

and it's sort of amusing too. the only person who's mentioned anything about it to me is my mom. no one else has said anything. they probably wouldn't be able to think of anything suitably polite to say... "say, that's a nice beard you've got there!"

but i am a bit concerned that when i see wonderful-dom-dude, that he might decide to pluck it out himself, or pull on it, or tell me to cut it off... when i wrote my list of limits, i included no shaving or plucking of my arms, armpits, legs, or eyebrows, but i didn't say anything about my chin. *giggle*
