Ren's money game

Last year on or around October 20, Wyze's golden cam treasure hunt started, with daily puzzles and clues. I was pained that I had to work and couldn't spend as much time as I'd like on it.

Yesterday I discovered Ren launched an online puzzle/game: The Money Game, in advance of the release of his song "Money Game Part 3". The game started on Friday, and I think it lasts 7 days - I'm not sure what happens if a daily puzzle isn't solved. The TOS page on the site explains how the game works, but it's still not very clear to me. A daily riddle, one person entering the answer to unlock a video with more riddles that go down rabbit holes, entering another answer, and then one final winner every day who is the first to answer 10 questions? With community solving going on on several different social media sites.

When I first opened the Discord site yesterday, there were so many posts on the thread about the game that trying to scroll to the top of the thread or pressing Control+Home only took me back a few minutes each time. Doing a search, I found that adding "/0" at the end of the URL takes you to the beginning of the thread. Of course I didn't have time to read the whole thing; there were other things I had to do yesterday.

Last night while searching and exploring the various pages about the game, I found that the first day's puzzle had been solved. This video explains its clues and solution:

I'm feeling that same excitement and pain of not being able to spend more time on it, as with last year's Wyze game. Along with knowing that I haven't had time to even watch all of Ren's videos and listen to all his songs, so I probably don't have enough background info to figure out the puzzles... but there's still that excitement of wanting to be part of the community solving process. And most of the solution steps mentioned in the above video are ones I theoretically could have figured out, even though it's very unlikely I would have.

Before going to bed last night, I found Rika Shae had also posted a video with the solution to the 2nd day's game. I haven't watched it yet. Per the count down on the website, today's game is kicking off within the next hour. Sigh. I'd need to take a week of vacation if I wanted to play!! Grrrrr.

On the other hand, I've got interesting puzzles to figure out for my work too. Oh, the puzzles the puzzles...

Yay, it's the weekend, and I finished my work for work before midnight today!

It's been very much Spring here the last couple weeks.
Daffodils are yellow.
Pink magnolia blossoms bloomed but they're already gone and replaced by small light green leaves.
Yellow jessamine is yellow.
Bradford pear blossoms are pungent.
Little fig tree leaves are light green and fuzzy.
I wore knee-shorts today and sat outside working for a while. Can do that for now still as the mosquitos aren't out in force yet.

Catchy headline: Busted Plug Towed Away

I didn't know the giant fire hydrant art installation was called "Busted Plug". I'm saddened to hear it's been moved away... but hopefully it will be put up somewhere else in a good spot.

It had been here since 2001: Busted Plug Plaza, in the same parking lot as the iconic Tunnelvision mural and the haybales mural. I enjoyed seeing it whenever I drove downtown.

Here's a short video showing it from multiple angles: Roadside Buzz - Busted Plug, Columbia, SC
.

This "Ra Obelisk" is an artwork here in town I'd not heard of nor visited before. About the hieroglyphs painted on the sides, the article states:
Some of the symbols translate to the titles of Beatles songs “Here Comes the Sun” and “All You Need is Love.” The artist would not give the meaning to the message on the right side, only saying it was an ancient concept and invited others to try to translate it.

That prompted me to try deciphering the right side. The best I could come up with is this:
Peace | The angels are real | They love you

I am not certain that is the message the artist intended; I didn't find a decipherment of the message posted anywhere on the web. I did find that the artist, Richard Lane, died in 1998. That is mentioned in this booklet: Sarah Leverette : South Carolina lawyer, teacher, mentor, ground breaker.

.

Another catchy headline: “Flying car” company to enter US market in partnership with Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE)

treasure hunts

Wyze is hosting a treasure hunt and has been posting another mysterious clue each day.

A YouTube live stream points at the treasure's location.

Following the YouTube chat (when I can find time) is fascinating. Many of the participants work together in trying to figure out the clues and freely share what was figured out so far. I find that so nice to see, as I would have instead expected people to be trying to figure it out on their own or in small private groups, so as to be able to claim one of the two prizes for themselves.

The people in the chat figured out the first clue has something to do with "friends", which makes sense now when I re-read the clue. I definitely didn't figure that out when I was puzzling over the clue yesterday.

They've narrowed the treasure location down to Vashon island in Washington state (though someone else mentioned Tacoma, which is nearby). The livestream cam has the sound of airplanes. They mentioned checking the flight paths of airplanes to figure out the location.
This website shows the planes flying in the area:

This website lets you decipher the encrypted clues:

The livestream has showed rain in the location yesterday and today, which matches up with what I've seen on the Ventusky weather map.
Only the northwest U.S. had rain yesterday, which agrees with the location being in Washington state.

What do these verbs have in common?

seek, buy, fight, catch, teach, bring, think

(It should be quite obvious once you figure it out; you shouldn't have to wonder whether you've guessed right.)

As a bonus round, there's at least one more verb that could be added to the list, though it's more tenuous. What letter does it start with?

Why did I have to spend the last 2 or 3 hours reading about how the German Enigma encryption machines worked, and how the messages were deciphered? Why doesn't the part of my brain which is engrossed in something like that ever pay attention to the other part of my brain that is saying I better stop and get ready for bed?

My alma mater's mailing list sometimes includes a mathematical brain teaser in their emails. Often, when I first look at the brain teaser, it seems like it should be easy to solve. Sometimes, it is. Other times, it takes me a long time to figure out (or I may even give up, deciding I have other pressing things to do with my time).

I wonder if I could have solved these problems quicker/easier, when I was younger. Or if they would have been the same difficult for me, back then.

Latest brain teaser:
There is a number less than 3,000 that when divided by 2 leaves a remainder of 1, when divided by 3 leaves a remainder of 2, when divided by 4 leaves a remainder of 3, when divided by 5 leaves a remainder of 4, when divided by 6 leaves a remainder of 5, and so on up to nine.
What is that number?

How I finally solved it )
